Maintenance & Restoration

All stone floors need a bit of TLC. General routine maintenance is important to keep your floors looking as good as possible for as long as possible. General domestic maintenance routines cannot, however, keep your stone floors looking pristine forever and there will be a time, or times, when you need some professional help, and we are the ones who can do just that.
So how do you tell if your stone floors need some professional attention and you need a specialist from The Ground Floor to come and have a look?

  • Is the stone dull, faded, lost it’s lustre?

  • Is the grout discoloured?

  • Does the stone lose its shine quickly after it has been cleaned?

  • Has it been damaged or scuffed by furniture being dragged over it?

  • Are there ‘lippages’ or uneven tiles due to settlement or poor installation?

  • Have cracks and chips appeared over the years?

  • Does it have marks or stains that cannot be removed with general cleaning methods?

  • Do you long for it to have that newly laid, luxurious finish to it?

  • Does it just need ‘lifting’?

Does your once beautiful limestone floor look like this now?

We can make it look like this.

We offer a number of services tailored to each situation, and depending on how much professional help you are looking for.

We can provide a general ‘Refresh’ package which will involve a deep clean of the tiles and grout joints followed by the application of a suitable sealer. This is suitable for a lot of domestic situations where the stone has not deteriorated too much, and our professional equipment and knowledge is needed to give a bit of oomph.
This is especially good for those times when there is a party or gathering due and you just need the place to look ‘just so’.

The weather and environment had played havoc with this lovely limestone feature.

Our expert knowledge and techniques brought back the wow factor.

We can provide a regular maintenance package. This is suitable for those with busy homes and lifestyles, where the appearance of the floors is as important as everything else. We also offer this service to commercial clients such as hotels, schools, pubs etc where general cleaning companies carry out daily or weekly maintenance, but every month or so they need more specialist attention.

The next step is the refurbishment, or restoration package. This will involve a deep clean of the floor to start. This will be followed by honing with diamond impregnated pads on a rotary machine. This process removes a tiny amount of the stone surface, allowing scratches and etch marks to be smoothed out. Cracks and chips can be repaired using stone resins and colour additives. The whole floor is then honed and polished to the desired finish, and an appropriate top brand sealer applied.

The restoration package can be extended to deeply damaged and scratched floors, and those where the client wants a perfectly smooth finish. Our specialist machinery and expertise allows for precise grinding, preparation, and finishing to achieve completely flat, seamless floors.
Our experience in installation comes in to play when we’re dealing with severely damaged floors, we can remove and replace tiles and slabs, and in most cases blend them with the originals.

This stunning Jura Beige patio had endured over a decade of weather close to the river Thames.

We were able to bring back its gorgeous golden tones.

Whatever the condition of your floor, we can help. Give us a call or send us your contact details and we will be happy to have a conversation over the phone or by email. Once we know what you’re looking for, we’ll arrange to come over, discuss the options, and carry out a small test patch. This will show you what finish to expect, and we can give you a fixed cost for the work.
